Rover of the Day: Mark Hume

21 May 2020

Mark Hume born May 21 1978.

One of many players recruited at the start of Rovers’ 1998-99 Conference campaign, Mark signed after being released by Barnsley.

He made his debut in Rovers’ first Conference match, away to Dover Athletic, at centre-back, but increasingly he was used as a striker, his height and strength proving useful against Conference defences.

He scored seven League goals although he faded out of the team as the season progressed. His low point was being sent off for a bad tackle in the opening minutes of a FA Cup Replay at Rushden and Diamonds, which Rovers eventually lost 2-4.

During the following season he joined Barrow and played for several non-League sides before going into management. His record for Rovers was 41 appearances and eleven goals.
