Rovers U18s have joined the hundreds of people up and down the country who have been taking part in Zoom quizzes to keep in-touch with friends during lockdown.

The players spend a lot of time together throughout the season both in school and at training and their closeness off the field helped them turn in a remarkable five wins in a row before the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Arranged by head of people and culture Kirsty Cavanagh, the event saw staff and players, who had not seen each other for a while, come together with staff volunteering as quiz masters.

Rovers Academy administrator Calum Oakenfield was crowned the winner, but he felt the opportunity to catch up with everyone was the most important thing.

“The quiz for the Academy players was a great idea and a great opportunity for some social interaction which is currently a rarity,” he said.

“Being new to the club, for me it was a great chance to get to know the players a bit more too. The quiz had some excellent rounds including sport, music and general knowledge.

“Luckily a lot of the questions were in my era and around my interests so I managed to score enough points to win the quiz. It was a good laugh and hopefully we will do another one soon.”
