Focus on getting through for Whiteman

27 November 2020

Ben Whiteman says Rovers will be focused on getting the job done when they take on Carlisle United in the Emirates FA Cup second round on Sunday.

Rovers travel to Brunton Park on the back of a 3-2 victory over Blackpool in Sky Bet League One, and the captain says that has given them momentum heading into the tie.

He said: “We know they are a team who play with a lot of energy and will look to counter on us when they get the opportunity.

“It’s another game where we have to be good on the ball, we have to focus on where we’re strong and what we can do to hurt them.

“It will be similar to the game on Tuesday, we have to find a way to win as you always do in a cup tie.

With Premier League clubs entering the competition at the third round stage, Whiteman says the players are keen to progress and test themselves further.

He added: “It’s been a strange year and a lot of clubs will be struggling financially, it would be good to get through and bring some revenue in.

“As a professional you want to get through in the competition and then hope that we get a big draw in the next round.”
