Darren Moore was delighted with the three points and clean sheet at Fratton Park, praising his side’s workrate over the 90 minutes.
Rovers had looked to be heading towards a goalless draw with Portsmouth but a moment of magic from Reece James saw him claim a late winner and give his team the three points.
“The most pleasing aspect was the resilience the squad showed,” said Moore.
“They had a willingness to make sure that they were covering each other and getting into position early. Portsmouth always ask questions and being at Fratton Park it’s always going to be a tough game so I was really pleased with how we played.
“When the opportunity came, it fell to Reece and it was a lovely finish. That’s the moment you wait for in a game like that and I’m pleased that it fell for us.”
Moore’s side also picked up their first clean sheet of the 2020/21 campaign with standout performances from across the defensive unit.
“You know that with a clean sheet you’ve always got a chance of winning the game. Everyone to a man did their jobs defensively,” he added.
“We stood up and showed another side to us that I was very pleased with. We had jobs to do and we did them today.
“I’m please because it shows the players that when they’re on it mentally and physically they’ll get their just rewards and they did that today.”
