Rovers are looking to make it back-to-back wins in Sky Bet League One when they take on Ipswich Town at the Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday night.

Reece James scored the only goal of the game as Rovers won 1-0 at Portsmouth in their last outing.

Ipswich’s start to the season 

The Tractor Boys are the division’s in-form team after enjoying an unbeaten start to the league campaign, winning five of their six games so far. 

They won their first three games of the season by the same score-line, beating Wigan Athletic, Bristol Rovers and Rochdale 2-0. After a draw at MK Dons at the start of October, they returned to winning ways emphatically with a 4-1 victory at Blackpool. 

Their last outing saw them comfortably beat Accrington Stanley 2-0 at Portman Road. 


The man in charge 

Former Norwich manager Paul Lambert was appointed as Ipswich boss in October 2018. The club were bottom of the Sky Bet Championship when he took over, and he was unable to keep them in the second tier that season.  

After a positive start to life in Sky Bet League One, Ipswich finished 11th last season, and Lambert was handed a new five-year deal in January. Since taking the job, Lambert has been in charge of 88 Ipswich games, winning 28, drawing 24 and losing 36, giving him an overall win percentage of 31.8%. 


Ones to watch 

Luke Chambers 

The experienced defender joined Ipswich in the summer of 2012 after leaving Nottingham Forest. After beginning his career with Northampton Town, he moved to Forest in 2007 and went on to make more than 200 appearances for the reds. He helped them to win promotion to the Sky Bet Championship prior to his move to Ipswich.  

His first season with the Tractor Boys saw him win the club’s player of the year award, and he has impressed ever since leading to him being named as the club captain.  


Gwion Edwards 

Edwards joined Town in the summer of 2018 from fellow Sky Bet League One side Peterborough United for an undisclosed fee. After starting his career with Swansea City, the winger impressed in the EFL following a permanent move to Crawley Town. He spent two years at the Broadfield Stadium before moving to Peterborough where he made more than 50 appearances.


Freddie Sears 

The former West Ham United trainee scored on his Premier League debut against Blackburn Rovers. After leaving the Hammers, Sears signed for Colchester United and established himself as a regular in their starting XI. 

It wasn’t long before clubs higher in the footballing pyramid had their eye on him and Ipswich snapped him up for an undisclosed fee in 2015.


Last time out 

The two sides played out a goalless draw when they met for the first time in four years at Portman Road last season.
