Sims working hard to impress

19 October 2020

Josh Sims is hoping an impressive cameo appearance against Portsmouth will lead to more regular game time in a Rovers shirt.

The winger provided the assist for Reece James’ winner at Fratton Park, and says he is trying his best to force his way into Darren Moore’s starting XI.

He said: “It was enjoyable, the fixture was good timing for me being against Portsmouth and even better that we got the three points.

“It was what I expected it to be really, we played well and could have maybe added more goals but we looked sharp.

“I’ve grown up being a winger and enjoy what that position brings, I got an assist against Portsmouth so hopefully I can build on that.”

With the signings made during the transfer window, competition for places is strong in the Rovers squad, and Sims believes they are thriving on that heading into the game against Ipswich Town on Tuesday night.

He added: “It’s a good group of boys and the competition is strong, that’s a good thing because it keeps you hungry to keep performing.

“Nobody is guaranteed to play every week and the manager has been keen to point out that we will all be needed.

“It’s going to be tough but we have to embrace having so many games in a short space of time, as a player you want games to be coming thick and fast.”
