Smith enjoying time at Rovers

30 October 2020

Matt Smith says he’s enjoyed getting plenty of minutes under his belt since joining Rovers on deadline day.

Smith has started the past three fixtures in Sky Bet League One, and he believes that has helped him to settle quickly.

He said: “It’s been a fast turnaround for me but I’ve really enjoyed getting to know everyone and it’s a really good group.

“I didn’t play enough minutes last season and when deciding to come here I knew I needed to be playing regularly.

“I’ve been involved in every game since I’ve come in so I’m delighted with that, and hoping I can continue that momentum.”

Smith has slotted into the Rovers midfield seamlessly alongside captain Ben Whiteman, and says Darren Moore’s style suits him as a player.

He added: “I feel there is so much that I still need to learn as a player, I’m still young and coming to a club like this should improve me.

“Every manager is different and has their own philosophy so for me it’s about getting used to him and he was one of the main reasons I came here.

“We’re a bit different from a lot of other teams in this division, and so far I’ve really enjoyed being a part of the system.”
