Stancliffe: U18s are working hard to improve on September

Paul Stancliffe says his U18s side are working hard after suffering narrow defeats over the month of September.

The youth team manager has praised the defensive display from his team but has demanded more attacking impetus after they failed to score in games against Scunthorpe United and Lincoln City in the Youth Alliance League.

He said: “We are just not creating enough chances. They are putting in the effort, but they need to learn to be a little bit cuter and clever in the attacking third.

“Losing 1-0 means you’ll never be happy. As a defender you’re never going to keep a clean sheet every game but keeping it at 1-0 you have to start questioning that if the backline are doing their job – what can we do differently upfront to start scoring?

“That’s what we’ve been working on this week. We always analyse things and we just continue to work as hard as we usually do.”

The U18s travel to Huddersfield Town in the Youth Alliance League.
