Wright delighted with first clean sheet

18 October 2020

Joe Wright was delighted with Rovers’ first clean sheet of the campaign as they claimed an impressive 1-0 away win at Portsmouth.

Reece James got the only goal of the match in impressive style and Wright was quick to praise a good team performance.

“I’m delighted to get our first clean sheet of the season and to come to a tough place and get it makes it even sweeter,” he said.

“We had to dig deep today but I thought we stuck to our game plan and we did really well.

“Me, Tom, Cam, Brad, Reece, Josef - we say it every game, our target is always to come out of it with a clean sheet and we’re all delighted that we’ve got that done.”

With the exception of loanee Josef Bursik, the back four are now in their second season together and Wright believes they're gaining a real understanding.

“I think we’ve performed well this season, we’ve built good relationships,” Wright continued.

“Cameron showed he can slot in for Reece when he was pushed up the pitch on Saturday and I thought Brad and Joe Bursik were brilliant.

“It was a good team performance. Second half we had to dig deep a little bit but first half, I thought we controlled the game.”

On Reece James’ new advanced position, Wright added: “If he scores every game then I’m more than happy with him being there.

“I don’t know if we’ll set up like that again. The gaffer takes things game by game. Against certain opposition, we’ll set up that way.

“I think the gaffer knew they were going to go direct, which they did do, so we were set up for that.”
