Moore pleased with Jones debut

9 September 2020

Darren Moore was full of praise for Louis Jones after the goalkeeper made an impressive senior debut in the EFL Trophy.

Jones kept a clean-sheet and saved a penalty in the shootout victory over Bradford City at the Keepmoat Stadium, and Moore believes he will take plenty of confidence from it.

He said: “Louis was solid, you can always tell how good a goalkeeper is by how comfortable the defenders look in front of him.

“He took a lot of pressure off by commanding his area and taking balls that came into the box, his concentration levels were excellent.

“He kept Bradford out and then made a big save in the shootout, and I’m sure he will be really happy with his night’s work.”

The game against Bradford was Rovers second competitive outing of the season so far, and Moore says there were limited chances for his team in a close encounter.

He added: “I thought there were things we could have done better, particularly with the ball when there were opportunities to move it quicker.

“We came through the game with no injuries and a clean sheet which is good, we had to deal with a lot of long balls and physicality.

“As the game went on we got to grips with it a bit more, started to take control and probably could have won it late on.”
