Back to basics for Butler

9 April 2021

Andy Butler says he has been working on getting back to basics with his players ahead of the game against Wigan Athletic this weekend.

Butler’s side have been through a difficult spell in Sky Bet League One, and the manager believes some honest conversations will bring the best out of them.

He said: “The message to the players has been about getting back to basics and getting all the non-negotiables right.

“You can get fixed on certain things when it’s not going your way and that’s when it shows in your performance.

“I’ve got clarity on what they’re thinking which is positive and there is a real determination within the group to get to work on Saturday.”

Wigan are battling to try and avoid relegation at the business end of the season, and Butler believes their performances have been better than their league position suggests.

He added: “I think they are in a bit of a false position if I’m honest, having watched their games they play some really good football.

“We’ve got nine games to play ourselves and we have to believe we can get results in every one of them, we have to stop this losing feeling and turn it in to a winning one.”
