Butler: we have to focus on ourselves

30 April 2021

Andy Butler says his players have to be professional when they head to Rochdale in Sky Bet League One this weekend.

Dale go into the game in desperate need of three points in their bid to avoid relegation, but Butler says Rovers have to focus on themselves.

He said: “We have to be professional and take the emotion out of the game, we have an opportunity to show what we can do and carry on the momentum from Tuesday.

“I’ve been involved in relegation fights myself and it’s a horrible feeling when there’s a lot of pressure on you, but we have to just go about our own business.

“They’ve been involved in some entertaining games this season so we know they’re capable of scoring goals and Brian Barry-Murphy has done a really good job there.”

Butler has put his faith in several young players since his appointment as manager in March, and says he’s pleased to see midfielder AJ Greaves agree a new deal with the club.

He added: “We’ve had a few young players come into the team while I’ve been in charge and they’ve barely put a foot wrong.

“Louis Jones was brilliant at Peterborough as was Branden Horton, which showed they’re capable of doing it at this level.

“AJ has got his new deal now and it’s one he’s worked hard for and deserved, so now he has to keep his standards high to keep improving.”
