Accrington’s recent form

Accrington have won just one of their past six league games, stretching back to a 7-0 defeat at Peterborough United on March 27. They followed that up with a goalless draw at home to Burton Albion, before beating Oxford United 2-1 at the Kassam Stadium.

They were then beaten heavily at home to AFC Wimbledon, before another stalemate on the road at Blackpool. Stanley were beaten 3-1 by Rochdale in their last league game.

The man in charge

John Coleman returned for a second spell with Accrington in 2014 and helped them win promotion to Sky Bet League One in the 2017/18 campaign. Since returning, Coleman has taken charge of 351 matches, winning 145, drawing 87 and losing 119, giving him an overall win percentage of 41.3%.

Ones to watch

Paul Smyth

After coming through the system at Linfield in his native Northern Ireland, Smyth signed for Sky Bet Championship side Queens Park Rangers in the summer of 2017. After 18 months of settling in, he joined Accrington on loan for the second-half of the 2018-19 campaign, scoring three goals in 11 starts. He spent last season with Wycombe Wanderers, before another loan spell at the start of this season with Charlton Athletic.

He re-joined Accrington at the start of January and has been a welcome addition to John Coleman’s side, chipping in with another three goals so far.

Dion Charles

The powerful striker joined Stanley from non-league outfit Southport in the summer of 2019. Having started his career with Blackpool, Charles has also spent time with AFC Fylde and Fleetwood Town earlier on in his career.

So far this season, the Northern Ireland international has scored 18 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions, including two against Lincoln City last time out.

Colby Bishop

The Nottingham-born striker came through the ranks with hometown club Notts County but made just a handful of appearances before spending time in non-league with Worcester, Boston United and Leamington.

The 24-year-old joined Accrington in the summer of 2019 and made an immediate impact, scoring 12 goals in 31 appearances in what was his first full season in the EFL. Bishop has carried on that form this time around and has once again reached double figures for Stanley.

Last time out

Paul Smyth scored the only goal of the game when the two sides last met back in February, to secure a 1-0 victory for Stanley at the Keepmoat Stadium.
