Close pre-Portsmouth

20 August 2021

Ben Close is enjoying life at Rovers after his summer transfer from Saturday's opponents Portsmouth.

The midfielder was Richie Wellens’ first summer signing and has slotted straight into midfield this season. He is looking forward to coming up against his former club for the first time this weekend.

On how close Rovers are to getting results right:

“There’s been times where you can see our performance levels are rising. For longer periods in games, we have been the better team.

“The next step is starting to score chances when we make them and to start scoring when we’re on top.

“I chose a club and manager where I knew I could play my best football, and everything has been good so far but it will be perfect when we can start getting the results right."

On settling in:

“The lads have helped me settle in well. We are a tight group of lads which has made it easier than I thought it would be to settle in.

“We have a golf school, but the quality is not great. Branden Horton, he can be quite aggressive, but is improving and Louis Jones is a decent player. There are a few others I have not played with yet but they claim they are good.

“I am in a hotel at the minute so being around a group of lads who want to do stuff outside of training is really good.”
