Frustration for Wellens

18 August 2021

Richie Wellens felt his side matched Accrington Stanley for much of the game after being beaten 1-0 at the Wham Stadium.

An early error gifted Joe Pritchard the winner just two minutes in, while a lack of cutting edge cost Rovers.

On his side’s performance:

“I thought it was a little bit harsh on us to lose the game, we gave them a goal early on but after half an hour or so we started to get some control.

“The first 15 minutes they ran all over us and were first to every second ball, but once we got over that we were probably the better team.

“When you come here you have to try and match them up, I thought we did that in the second half.”

On struggling in front of goal:

“The amount of times we get into good positions and the final ball lets us down is really frustrating.

“We have to believe that we’re going to score goals, we’re getting in the right areas but can’t find the end product.

“We are doing a lot of things right but it still hurts. I’ve been in this situation as a player at this club so we just need something to fall for us.”
