In opposition: AFC Wimbledon - form guide

6 August 2021

AFC Wimbledon closed the 2020/21 season as one of the form teams with four wins, three draws and three losses.

They amassed 18 goals during that span but Mark Robinson’s team was not quite able to find that same scoring prowess through four pre-season summer friendlies against Brentford, Hampton & Richmond Borough, Woking and Scunthorpe United, respectfully.

AFC Wimbledon opened its pre-season summer friendly slate against Premier League debutants Brentford, falling to a 1-0 defeat.

In a pre-season contest away to Hampton & Richmond Borough F.C., the Dons were able to claw back a one-goal deficit to share the spoils with a 1-1 draw, thanks massively to Luke McCormick. The former loan-signee from Chelsea made the move permanent to AFC Wimbledon in July. With the Dons utilising a 4-2-2-2 to open, Zach Robinson and David Fisher started up top, while McCormick and Jack Rudoni were in advanced positions up the pitch. Algerian Zaki Oualah, having officially signed for the club in May, started in goal.

The Dons were defeated in their third pre-season friendly, falling to 1-0 defeat to National League opponent Woking. Aaron Pressley, on a season-long loan from Brentford, played in attacking areas, seeing opportunities off crosses into the box go over the bar and wide from headers.

The Dons enter the season-opener on the heels of a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sky Bet League Two side Scunthorpe United. The Dons opened the game with an early goal, with Ollie Palmer stepping up to convert a fourth-minute penalty. But Scunthorpe was able to sneak two first-half goals past first team goalkeeper Nik Tzanev.
