In opposition: Sheffield Wednesday - what the opposition says

13 August 2021

Since arriving to S6, Darren Moore has posted a record of three wins, seven losses and five draws – not including a draw at home to Huddersfield Town to begin the 2021/22 slate as part of the Carabao Cup (a game in which Sheffield Wednesday would lose 4-2 on penalties).

It was September 28 2013, the last time Sheffield Wednesday hosted Doncaster Rovers to Hillsborough for a league fixture – that being a 1-0 win for the Owls in the Championship.

After the team’s 0-0 draw a week ago away to Charlton Athletic, Wednesday return to play their first home match in front of fans since the pandemic and Moore has been speaking to the media.

On the team shape:

“Truth be told, it’s going to take time. But what we need to be doing is showing improvement week after week. We now get a full week to work, which is great. We’ll work in terms of getting better, and needing to get better, really. In terms of that, there were lots of positives in the form [against Charlton] that we can take into training.

On Rovers:

I’m looking forward to the game. It’s a nice local derby and the first league game in front of our support. I enjoyed my job at Doncaster and I’m thankful for the opportunity to manage there.

On Hillsborough:

The atmosphere at Hillsborough will be exciting and full of energy and we’re looking forward to seeing everybody there.

I’ve spoken to the groundsman and his team and they have done a wonderful job with it. There was a limited time to get the pitches sorted, so I want to say a big thank you to our grounds team for some great work.
