Cameron John felt Rovers did enough to claim all three points in the draw with Portsmouth at the Keepmoat Stadium.
Tommy Rowe had a first-half goal disallowed, while Pontus Dahlberg kept out a Shaun Williams penalty at the other end late on.
On the performance:
“We a feel a bit hard done by that we didn’t get the win, we showed how good a team we are.
“A point is a good building block and it gives us something to move forward with.
“For us it’s given us confidence that we can match any team in the division.
“I think we surprised them with the way we started on the front foot, but that’s the way we wanted to play.”
On slotting into central defence after Tom Anderson was withdrawn:
“Not much changed for me, the messages are still the same and while it was sad to see Tom go off I knew I had a job to do.
“He’s a massive player for us and a really good captain, so I wanted to carry on the good work he’s been doing.
“I’ve got a lot of experience in that role now so it was a fairly seamless transition.”
