Rovers’ youngster Lirak Hasani got off the mark for Matlock Town on the weekend with a glorious header while Ben Bottomley got his first minutes for Frickley Athletic.

The 19-year-old midfielder came off the bench to score in Matlock’s victory at home to Hyde United on Saturday. It was a deft header by Hasani who gave opposition goalkeeper Joe Green no chance.

Known as The Gladiators, Matlock won the game 2-1 with the Rovers’ loanee scoring their second goal.

The Gladiators play in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, the seventh tier of English football. They followed up their victory with another - a 1-0 away defeat of Nantwich Town, this time Hasani remained on the bench.

The back-to-back victories put Matlock Town seventh in the table, only missing out on the play-off spots via goal difference.

There was also a debut for Rovers goalkeeper Ben Bottomley at non-league team Frickley Athletic.

Bottomley was unfortunate to be on the losing side after they lost 1-0 away to Lincoln United on Tuesday night with the goal coming from the penalty spot.

Matlock Town’s next game is away to Warrington Town on Saturday - Frickley Athletic host Tadcaster Albion at the same time.
