Rovers have completed the signing of central midfielder Ethan Galbraith on a season-long loan from Premier League side Manchester United.
The 20-year-old has two full Northern Ireland caps to his name, after appearances against Luxembourg and Romania.
He also has Europa League experience under his belt having come off the bench against FC Astana in 2019.
Galbraith has been a regular for United’s U23s side, and scored against Rovers in an EFL Trophy tie at the Keepmoat Stadium in the 2019/20 campaign.
He will wear the No.22 shirt during his time with Rovers, and could go straight into the squad to face Sheffield Wednesday in Sky Bet League One on Saturday.
Richie Wellens said: "I’m delighted, we’ve secured a top footballer. He’s played in the under 23s for a couple of years and needs the opportunity to play first-team football.
"I think in terms of ability he has every chance of being a top player, I’m looking forward to seeing how he adapts to the physicality of this level.
"The opportunity came to get him in and when a player like Ethan becomes available we couldn’t miss out."
