Samuel Barrott will be the referee in charge for Rovers’ first league game of the season against AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.
Barrott took charge of one Rovers match last season - a 1-0 home defeat to Fleetwood Town in April. During that game he handed out one yellow card to the visitors.
He was kept busier in his only Wimbledon game last season - a 0-0 draw away to Bristol Rovers. Four yellow cards were handed out to Wimbledon, the hosts received two also.
The last red card given by Barrott was January 30 - a last man challenge by Fleetwood’s Charlie Mulgrew in a league game versus Oxford United.
Hailing from West Riding, the referee was previously in Halifax Town’s academy before injuries halted his progress. Barrott credits fellow referees David Fuller and Bobby Madley as his influences as both coached him as an official.
On Saturday, he will be assisted by Thomas Harty and Robert Atkin. Geoffrey Russell will be the fourth official.
