Rovers to face Stoke City in the second round of the Carabao Cup

11 August 2021

Rovers will travel to Stoke City in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Goals from Sam Surridge and Harry Souttar saw Stoke beat Fleetwood Town 2-1 at home to earn their place in the second round.

It will be the 16th time the two sides have met in all competitions but only the second since the 1960s. The head-to-head results are completely even with five wins apiece and five draws, however, the most recent meeting in 2016 ended in a narrow 2-1 home defeat for Rovers in the Emirates FA Cup.

The last time Rovers travelled to the Britannia Stadium was a famous afternoon in 2003 as they sealed promotion back to the football league thanks to Francis Tierney’s golden goal.

The match will be played the week commencing August 23 with all further details to be released in due course.
