Rowe: we have to keep building

17 August 2021

Tommy Rowe spoke to the media ahead of Rovers’ trip to Accrington Stanley on Tuesday night.

Richie Wellens’ side head to the Wham Stadium looking to pick up their first win of the Sky Bet League One season.

On the start to the campaign:

“Fans want us to play attractive football, but it’s only attractive if it pays off when you get into the final third.

“I’ve said before it is a building process and that was before COVID effected us and the injuries we suffered.

“We’re all patient but demanding a lot of each other which is the way we have to be.”

On attempting to build a strong defensive unit:

“I think the lads are starting to take on instructions better, we’ve had plenty of work in the past couple of weeks.

“With the personnel we have and the lads who haven’t played much shows how strong the defensive areas are.

“We’re trying to build a culture where our standards are high and every position has a player pushing to take someone’s place.”

On Accrington:

“They’ve caused us problems over the years, they’re tough to play against and are a strong team.

“It’s a battle and we’re preparing to come up against an established side at this level, but our focus is on applying our own principles on the game.”
