Wellens looking forward to Wednesday test

13 August 2021

Richie Wellens spoke to the media ahead of this weekend’s South Yorkshire derby against Sheffield Wednesday.

The Rovers boss is expecting a tough test at Hillsborough, against a side relegated from the Sky Bet Championship last season.

On going up against a Darren Moore side:

“He played good football here but he has different personnel at his new club.

“Barry Bannan is probably one of the best players in the division, and I think there is plenty of power in their team.

“They had a tough game away at Charlton, it was scrappy and didn’t have many chances in it.

“Local derbies are good but we have to focus mentally on what we can control.”

On how his team have prepared:

“We looked better on Tuesday night, the patterns that I want were starting to take shape.

“We’re searching for our first league win and there’s no better place to start than Saturday.

“They are a huge football club but the way we look at it is they are in the same league as us and it’s all about who performs better on the day.”
