Noel Hunt spoke to the media ahead of Wednesday night’s trip to Crewe Alexandra in the Papa John’s Trophy.
Rovers are looking to go beyond the second round stage of the competition for the first time since the 2014/15 campaign.
On team selection:
“We’ll have some young lads involved, we’re trying to look after as many of the senior players as we can.
“We want to give certain players a break but we can’t at the minute because we don’t have the luxury of being able to rotate the squad.
“The young lads that come in will benefit from it and it’s more first-team experience for them.”
On Crewe:
“They’ve done well in the competition and I’ve got a lot of respect for what David Artell has done there.
“A lot of his players departed last season and he’s had to build the squad again which takes time.
“They’ve got a brand of football that they stick to, and it will be a tough game for us.”
