Rowe: stand up and be counted

3 December 2021

Tommy Rowe spoke to the media ahead of Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup tie against Mansfield Town.

The game at the Keepmoat Stadium is Rovers’ first of three on home soil in the space of a week.

On how the group have responded to a challenging week:

“Sometimes you have to be held accountable and take responsibility of the fact that we as a group could have done a lot more.

“Personal reflection is important and we’ve all had to look at ourselves, I’m 33 now and this had been one of the most difficult starts to a season I have had.

“When you’re stretched with bodies it can affect the players that are fit and I think that has shown.”

On players learning:

“Results haven’t been there but as a group we have worked hard on the development of individuals.

“There are a lot of people putting in a lot of work behind the scenes to prepare young players for games coming thick and fast.

“That development may be hidden when results don’t go in our favour, but I’ve seen so much improvement in the lads we have.”

On preparing for Mansfield:

“I’ve had good times and bad times in football and the important thing is to keep your mindset strong throughout.

“We’re fully focused on Saturday’s game, we came in on Friday and made sure that we prepared as well as we could.”
