AJ Greaves says he was determined to take his chance after being handed his full league debut in the win over Rochdale in Sky Bet League One.
Greaves produced a solid performance in the holding midfield role, and helped Rovers to a 1-0 victory at the Keepmoat Stadium.
He said: “It was a good result for us, I tried to work hard and make sure I put my tackles in which is what the gaffer wanted from me.
“I tried not to think too much about it being my debut, just that we needed the win to keep our momentum going.
“I found out on Monday after training that I would be starting, and once the manager told me I wanted to repay his faith in me.”
After back-to-back appearances in a Rovers shirt, Greaves says hard work on the training ground has enabled him to earn a place in the team.
He added: “I’ve tried to show the coaching staff that I’m working hard to show them why I should be involved more often.
“The manager has worked with me every day to make sure I keep improving my game and knowing what to do in different scenarios.
“We have a lot of good players here which means the intensity in training is always high and that brings out the best in people.”
