Richards pleased to make the difference

10 January 2021

Taylor Richards was pleased that his goal made the difference in the Emirates FA Cup third round tie at Blackburn Rovers.

The Brighton loanee fired into the bottom corner just before half-time to secure Rovers’ passage into round four.

He said: “I didn’t realise at first how much space I was in, I had a few options but felt that the shot was the right one and it paid off.

“It was good to see it go in after a bit of a mistake from the goalkeeper, they all count though and I’ll take it.

“I’m trying to be more effective around the box and I’ve got two goals from similar positions recently which is good for me.”

Rovers produced a battling performance to secure the win at Ewood Park, and Richards says it shows the mentality within the squad.

He added: “I thought the first-half was a bit scrappy but it was massive for us to get the goal and go in at half-time in front.

“I think it shows the attitude of the lads to come here against a top Championship team and get the win.

“We came into training a few days ago and had to work quickly on getting our sharpness back ready for the game.”
