To captain this fantastic football club was a huge honour

14 January 2021

Ben Whiteman has left a message for supporters, staff, players and everyone connected at the club as he makes the move to Sky Bet Championship side Preston North End.

The 24-year-old took to twitter to summarise his time at the club and thank everyone for the last three years.

The message read:

Firstly, I just want to thank Doncaster Rovers for letting me be part of a special club for 3 and a half year in that time, they’ve made me a better player but more importantly a better person.

I’ve met some life long friends, and made some incredible memories. I’d like to thank Gavin and the board of directors for all they have done for me since I first joined. I’d also like to thank the managers that I have played for in Darren Ferguson, Grant McCann, and Darren Moore for giving me an opportunity in playing week in and week out.

Also I’d like to thank the players and staff that I have had the pleasure in working with day in day out who have made me into a better players and person that when I arrived 3 and a half years ago. To captain this fantastic football club was a huge honour for myself and my family and something I’ll never forget.

Finally to the supporters, since I first arrived, you have been nothing but brilliant with me and it’s something I’ll never forget. Everytime [sic] I put the shirt on, I always gave 100% and tried as hard as I could to win.

It’s a club that will always be close to my heart for the rest of my career and beyond. I’ll be watching as a fan.

All the best, Ben
