Ben Close says it’s been a learning curve settling into a new group in the first two weeks of pre-season.
Close joined Rovers on a three-year deal in June, leaving hometown club Portsmouth to head for pastures new.
He said: “It’s been nice getting to know a new set of lads, in the past I’ve experienced new players coming in whereas now I am that new player.
“We’ve got a good group together nice and early, I’ve been impressed with the players that have followed me through the door.
“A lot of the boys have welcomed me in, I’ve got a lot in common with some of them and Cam John in particular has been great with me.”
With two full weeks already in the bag for Rovers since they returned to Cantley Park, Close says the squad have enjoyed a testing and productive time of things so far.
He added: “It’s been a really good start to pre-season, training has been tough but enjoyable and we’ve done a lot of work with the ball.
“We had a hard day first up so we knew what we were in for, but the manager has done a good job of mixing it up.”
