Butler: all to play for in every game

11 March 2021

Andy Butler says the clash with Northampton Town shows the importance of every game at this stage of the season.

Rovers are looking to continue their push for a top six spot, while the Cobblers are aiming to climb out of the Sky Bet League One relegation zone.

He said: “We’re going up against a side that will fight for every single ball, we went down to their place and got a win but that was tough even against 10 men.

“Every game from now until the end of the season is a big one, we’re aiming for different things but both are just as valuable.

“There is a chasing pack who will be looking to capitalise on any slip up so we need to make sure we get three points more often than not.”

After confirmation that winger Jon Taylor would miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury, Butler gave an update on him and the other Rovers players currently carrying knocks.

He added: “We’ve been in close contact with Tayls and I wanted to speak to him before putting the news out there, it’s disappointing for him and us and we’ll do everything we can for him.

“He’s the type of character you need around the group, he’s a motivator and we want him in and around things even when he’s not playing.

“John Bostock is doubtful for the weekend, but Reece James has responded well to treatment and could be involved.

“Omar Bogle is another one who might miss out, Fejiri Okenabirhie is doing well in training and hopefully we can call upon him.”
