Butler: Plenty of areas to improve

18 March 2021

Andy Butler says his side are working hard to get back to winning ways at Gillingham this weekend.

Rovers were beaten by Oxford United in midweek, and the manager believes there are several areas they can improve in.

He said: “There are a few things I wanted to improve from Tuesday, we became a bit predictable and I don’t want that from my team.

“We have to be capable of mixing things up and that is something we’ve looked at in the last couple of days.

“I think we can be a bit more compact when we haven’t got the ball as well, so it’s down to me to get the best out of them.”

The Gills are one of the division’s form teams having lost just one of their past six league games, and Butler has been impressed by Saturday’s opponents.

He added: “Steve Evans has done a fantastic job at Gillingham and they are on a really good run of form at the moment.

“We’ve watched their win at Lincoln and it was very similar to a lot of the wins they’ve had recently, so the players know how tough the game will be.

“We’re going up against a team in form but at the same time we feel there are areas where we can try and hurt them.”
