Butler praises Rovers character

21 March 2021

Andy Butler praised his side’s character after they came from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw at Gillingham in Sky Bet League One.

Butler’s side found themselves on the back foot inside the opening couple of minutes, but fought back through goals from Tom Anderson and James Coppinger.

He said: “The first few minutes of the game weren’t ideal and then you’ve got a mountain to climb but we did well to get a point.

“After that I thought we did really well at heading away balls into the box and it was great to see the togetherness of the lads.

“It shows the desire to not let setbacks affect them, I think it’s a good point from where we were four minutes in.”

With a full week to prepare for the next league game at MK Dons, Butler is looking forward to working with the players on the training ground.

He added: “We’ve got a full week coming up and it will be good to have a bit of training with the lads to work on a few things.

“We’ve not really had that since I took over, so we’ll have a look at who needs a rest and who needs a bit more intensity in their legs.”
