Wellens: Hunt will be a great addition

21 May 2021

Richie Wellens believes Noel Hunt will bring a lot to Rovers after his arrival as assistant manager.

Wellens and Hunt worked together during their time at Swindon Town, and the manager believes the Irishman will prove to be a valuable asset.

He said: “Noel will come in and the supporters will really enjoy him, he is a really genuine guy and is very loyal which is what you need.

“He will be the glue that brings everything together, his personality will rub off on the players and the staff and he’ll be a great addition.

“I knew within a day or two of working with him at Swindon that he is suited to a football environment and needs to be amongst it in the dressing room.”

Wellens is also looking forward to working with the staff already at the football club after receiving a glowing report on each of them.

He added: “I’m not a big believer in coming in and taking people out of a job that they are really good at.

“I’ve spoken to James Coppinger as well as Mary Lally (head of administration and football operations) and Gavin Baldwin (chief executive), they have given me a really good insight as to the staff we have here.

“They are good at their job and really good people, and that is the most important thing for me. I want to be surrounded by good people.”
