Goals from Rodrigo Vilca and Joe Dodoo (2) helped a young Rovers side secure 3-2 win over Scunthorpe United.

Twelve players named in squad had come through Rovers Academy with current U18s players Tavonga Kuleya, Will Hollings and Jack Goodman all making their debuts. Lirak Hasani also played his first 90 minutes in a Rovers shirt while Ben Blythe, Louis Jones, and Branden Horton also started.

Rovers got off to a blistering start when Kuleya teed up Vilca for an early effort from the edge of the box. It took a horrible deflection and rolled beyond Rory Watson.

Soon after, Vilca turned provider playing Dodoo through for the striker to calmly slot inside the far post. The lead was extended in the second half when Dodoo fired home a second. Vilca hit the bar shortly after.

The young side began to tire and late strikes from Ryan Loft and Jake Scrimshaw made for a nervy final few minutes but Rovers hung on to progress to the next round.
