Officials confirmed for Crewe (Papa John's Trophy)

29 November 2021

Ross Joyce will be the man in charge when Rovers travel to Crewe Alexandra on December 1 in the Papa John’s Trophy.

Wednesday will mark the second time Joyce has overseen a Rovers match this season - he was in charge when Rovers were defeated by Sheffield Wednesday in August. On that day, he handed out three yellow cards to Rovers - Kyle Knoyle, Tommy Rowe and Ethan Galbraith were all cautioned – while the Owls did not receive a card.

This match will also be the second time he has overseen a Crewe game in 2021/22 as he was the man in the middle, when they beat Burton Albion 2-0 at home in Sky Bet League One. Joyce booked four players that day before sending off Charlie Larkin for a second bookable offence.

This season, the Cleveland-based official has handed out two red cards (one to Larkin and the other a straight red for Barrow’s Mark Ellis in their clash with Bristol Rovers) and 55 yellows.

On Wednesday, Joyce will be assisted by Alan Clayton and Steven Plane. Lewis Smith will be the fourth official.
