Wellens looking forward to cup tie

4 November 2021

Richie Wellens spoke to the media ahead of the Emirates FA Cup first round tie at Scunthorpe United this weekend.

Wellens says the change in competition will take the pressure off his team, while also looking to build momentum.

On the FA Cup:

“We’re already planning for the Lincoln game in a few weeks but I always enjoy the first round of the FA Cup as it’s a special date in the calendar.

“It can take the pressure off a little bit but it also gives us a chance to get some momentum going.

“It’s a club that was in the Championship for a couple of years but they’re going through a difficult period at the minute.

“Our away fans have been terrific and we need to start giving them more to shout about.”

On Ethan Galbraith’s call-up to the Northern Ireland senior team:

“I think he deserves it, he’s been excellent particularly in recent weeks for us.

“I’m really pleased for him, I’ve watched him for a long time and he’s certainly added to our midfield.

“He’s got a tenacious side to his play and getting games in his legs will improve him a lot.”
