Wellens pleased to progress

6 November 2021

Richie Wellens spoke to the media following the 1-0 victory at Scunthorpe United in the Emirates FA Cup first round.

The manager felt his side could have had a more comfortable afternoon but for missed chances in the second-half at the Sands Venue Stadium.

On seeing the game out:

“We made hard work of a game that we should have been out of sight in, but we got the job done.

“It turned a little bit scrappy at the end and they started throwing balls into the box which made it look a bit tighter.

“Our back four and midfield were really good, we were solid enough and limited their chances.

“If we’d added to our tally then it would have made our defence and goalkeeper have a much more comfortable end to the game.”

On Branden Horton’s performance:

“I thought he was very positive and got us up the pitch when we needed it.

“His quality was good and he could have probably scored, it’s been tough for him but it’s down to him now to train well and we’ll see where we are for Lincoln.”
