Academy manager Tony Cook is hoping to build a winning mentality with the U18s after a tough month of results.
Two defeats to Mansfield Town and a draw against Huddersfield Town in September has left plenty of work to do ahead of October.
He said: “The month has been tough. Gary and myself speak regularly about the development of the players.
“We want to win football matches and we want our players to have a winning mentality, but we recognise that we have been playing young teams, which has penalised us a bit playing against teams with older players.
“We want them to be braver out of possession as a team. From the development side it has been pleasing in one aspect because we are finding more out about the players. A lot of it is mentality, which we’re hoping will be improved through our mentor groups which we have introduced.
“We are going to start working with James Coppinger about developing a winning mentality in themselves and help them set personal goals.
“A lot of them are living away from home and travelling far and their having to adjust to hard daily training schedule having only just left school. They have their college work and have to look after their diet, so there is a lot on their plate at a young age, but we support them all the way through this.”
