U18s manager Gary McSheffrey was pleased with his sides performance as they beat Oldham Athletic in the EFL Youth Cup.
A first half strike from Tavonga Kuleya followed by a second half brace from Jack Goodman secured a 3-1 win over the young Latics.
On the Oldham win:
He said: “Overall I am pleased with the performance as we played some good stuff. A lot of what we worked on in training came into fruition during the game.
“We have not won for a while so it felt good to get a win. Especially when this is probably the youngest side we have ever fielded in an U18s game with an U15 and U16 player featuring.
“We are buzzing to have won the game but there is still lots to improve on. Our decision making can be better. There were signs that we are heading in the right direction.
“They cannot get ahead of themselves because it is one win. We need to back it up with some consistency, which is something we have struggled with this season.”
On Sam Brown and Will Green featuring from younger age groups:
He added: “U15 Sam Brown was good in midfield and U16 Will Green was comfortable at left back.
“They have shown that no matter your age there’s always that opportunity to do well and progress up the ladder.”
