McSheffrey: We could have scored more

U18s manager Gary McSheffrey believes his side could have scored more goals in their 5-0 victory over Harrogate Town.

Owen Scattergood, Tavonga Kuleya, Tom Parkinson, Max Adamson and Corie Cole were all on target as Rovers’ U18s brushed aside Harrogate.

He said: “It was an accomplished performance where everybody played their part. A couple of our goals reflected what we work on in training.

“Our boys rose above any petulance and ill-discipline and saw out the game well. Both halves we started sloppy which was down to us trying too hard.

“We could have scored a lot more.”

It is now three competitive wins on the bounce and back-to-back clean sheets, which McSheffrey thinks has come at the right time of the season.

He added: “I told the boys that they are gathering momentum at the best time of the season. A few who started the season well had dipped in form and they are getting back to the levels that we know.

“We’re coming up to a good time for youth team football with the games programme in the league and the FA Youth Cup starting so it is good to have the numbers back.

“We’re gathering some good momentum at a key time.”
