Jon Taylor says he feels like a footballer again after making his return from injury in a behind closed door friendly against Lincoln City on Tuesday.
The winger ended a seven-month layoff with 45 minutes of action in a 2-0 win over the Imps.
He said: “I felt good, I know I’ve got some work to do to get back to full fitness, but it was a weight off the shoulders to be back playing.
“Being on the field with the lads was nice, I think it’s important now to take things step by step.
“I’ve had setbacks, but I’ve tried to stay positive and work hard to get back fit.”
Taylor admitted he spoke to James Coppinger around the mental aspect of dealing with a long-term injury.
He added: “A couple of years ago I would have struggled massively, football is our lives and we want to train and play every day.
“I spoke to Copps, he helped me and I’ve been reading a lot as well on how to adapt.
“Surrounding myself with good people and having a tight group of players has helped me to get through it.”
