Wellens: we let the game drift

20 October 2021

Richie Wellens spoke to the media after his side were beaten at Gillingham in Sky Bet League One.

Vadaine Oliver’s header 12 minutes from time was enough to see Rovers leave Priestfield Stadium empty handed.

On not capitalising on a good first-half display:

“I’m disappointed with the result, we gave them too many cheap corners and long throws in a 10 minute period.

“We can take a lot from our first-half performance but we’ve got to take our chances when they come.

“We let the game drift away from us a little bit, we didn’t pass the ball as well in the second-half.

“The areas we are getting in consistently are good, it’s the final ball that we need to make better.”

On the need to stick together:

“Bravery is massive in football and the counter attacks were there for us at times.

“Everyone needs to stay together as staff and players, i’ll always be behind the lads and keep working to get it right.”
