Academy manager Tony Cook is delighted with how Rovers’ Foundation and Development Phase age groups have fared throughout August.
The Foundation Phase (U9-U12) started their season earlier in the month while Development Phase (U13-U16) have completed their pre-season preparations and will start their season this weekend.
Cook said: “The Foundation Phase play small sided games so you can get multiple games taking place in one venue. They have been everywhere from St George’s Park, Leeds United, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea.
“They average 30-40 games a year which helps us judge players on a high volume of games and it allows us to make a more constructive decision around them.
“U13s and U14s will start their season at Lincoln City on Sunday. We are having to create a better games programme with their being minimal clubs in it now we are looking for a variety of different oppositions.”
