22 September 2021

Richie Wellens Rovers make it back-to-back wins at the Keepmoat Stadium with a victory over Manchester City U21s in the Papa John’s Trophy.

Goals from Joe Dodoo either side of the break cancelled out Samuel Edozie’s early opener and secured three points for Rovers in the Northern Group E.

Wellens side created numerous challenges and should have been out of sight by the hour-mark with Tiago Cukur, Jordy Hiwula and Branden Horton all forcing good saves but Man City U21 finished the match the stronger and hit the woodwork twice in the closing stages.

Rovers could still qualify for the competition's knock-out stages with a win at Scunthorpe United next month if other results in the group go their way.
