Goals for Mickel Miller, Freddie Ladapo, Will Grigg, Jake Hull and Joe Mattock as well as an unfortunate own goal for Louis Jones made for a 6-0 defeat to Rotherham United for Rovers in the Papa John's Trophy.
A disappointing four minute period in the first-half saw Rovers concede three goals including a miss-hit cross and an effort from 25 yards which rebounded off the crossbar and went in off Jones' back to put the game out of sight. Matt Smith and Jordy Hiwula both had chances to get the side back in it when they were put through one-on-one while Hiwula and Ben Close both forced decent saves from the visiting keeper. But Rovers were unable to make the opportunities count leaving the score 3-0 at the break.
Rotherham's Will Grigg extended the lead shortly after half-time while Hull and Mattock compounded Rovers evening late on with goals from corners.
