First year scholar Max Adamson has spoken of his delight at coming off the bench to score the winning goal on the opening day of the Youth Alliance Cup.

The young striker came on as substitute to get a goal contribution for the second successive game at Cantley Park and his late strike was enough to take the three points in the first game of Group E.

Despite only featuring for the final 10 minutes of the fixture, Adamson had no problem crediting his teammates’ performance throughout the game.

He said: “The lads were great today. After the Hartlepool game, we all spoke and we agreed we could do better against Blackpool and we’ve done that and played better football than our opposition.

“It was nice to come on and do well to contribute and help get us over the line with the winner.”

The forward’s goal was his first competitive finish of the 2022/23 season before running over to the cameras to celebrate and he was pleased to take advantage of the opportunity he was presented with.

He added: “For my goal, I saw the keeper coming out and the ball was bobbling so I tried my best, chased him down and got the ball to be through on goal and scored.

“The boys in the dressing room told me if I scored to do the ‘T pose’ to celebrate so when I got the goal I had to do it.”

Adamson is relishing the challenges in his first season as an U18 player and was looking to his side’s next test as they face a first game on the road at Rotherham United on Saturday, August 27.

“We’ve started really well and although it is early days, we’ve made an unbeaten start to the season so we’ll prepare well and go into the game in the best position we can be in to try and keep that record.”
