Adam Long is looking to grasp his opportunity should he get the nod to start for Rovers in the Carabao Cup clash with Lincoln City.
The Imps visit the Eco-Power Stadium on Tuesday for the first round tie, with Long hopeful of receiving his first start for Rovers, following his summer move from Wigan Athletic.
Long on the start to the season for Rovers:
“It’s another important game for us. I think everyone is really looking forward to it, especially off the back of the result at the weekend.
“I feel like the win on Saturday was spurred on from the momentum we had from the previous weekend. To get the result at Bradford in those circumstances, with ten men, holding out and having our luck at times, shows the belief and going into Saturday it felt like that.
“When we were 1-0 down late on, we always felt like we could get something out of it.”
On biding his time for an opportunity since his arrival:
“I always want to play, not matter what, and this is a good opportunity to get some minutes.
“It’ll be good for me and I’m looking forward to it.
“I feel like we’ve got a good squad and whenever anyone is called upon, they know what they’re doing with their jobs in the team.”
On competition in the defensive ranks:
“There’s loads of competition and I think that makes us better in training. The lads all know there is someone ready to take the shirt.
“I feel like it brings out the best in the group.”
On what a win over higher league opposition would mean:
“I feel like that would give us a lot of belief going into Saturday away at Wimbledon.
“If we can put in a good performance against a team from the division above, then it will really stamp our authority on what we should be doing.
“We know Lincoln are a good side, they’re energetic, with willing runners but I feel we can get the better of them.”
