McSheffrey looking for positive reaction at Wimbledon

12 August 2022

Gary McSheffrey has urged his players to show that the issues in the defeat to Lincoln City were just a blip as they head to AFC Wimbledon in Sky Bet League Two.

McSheffrey was unhappy with the performance in the cup loss to the Imps and declared the game a wake-up call.

Now he wants to see a positive reaction at the Cherry Red Records Stadium this weekend.

On reacting to Tuesday’s defeat:

“Sometimes life gives you a kick up the backside. That’s all it was - some reminders

“We went through things on the video and just had a really good constructive meeting to clear it. We got to the bottom of a few things.

“We were pretty good defensively in the previous games so we hope it’s just a blip that we’ve nipped in the bud and we can go back to how we were.”

On facing AFC Wimbledon:

“They’ve recruited some experienced defenders, full backs. They’ve got some sharp attackers.

“It’s going to be a tough game, full of energy. They won their first home league game and then lost to the same opposition in the cup.

“They’ve got strengths and weaknesses like everyone. We go there with a game plan and we’ll try to impose ourselves on the game to try to get the win.

“We know we’re going to have to be at our best to do that because they’re one of the contenders to do well this year.”
