Goal hero Williams delighted with Wimbledon point

14 August 2022

Ro-Shaun Williams insists he took more joy from securing a last-gasp point for Rovers at AFC Wimbledon rather than netting his first ever senior goal.

The centre half glanced home a header in added time to complete Rovers’ comeback from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw.

On how the game played out:

“I felt like we were dominant today for large periods and we didn’t capitalise on that by scoring goals.

“We went two goals down which was disappointing, particularly with them being soft goals.

“As a team we showed a great reaction to get back in it. We keep going to the end and we’ve done that two weeks in a row, getting two late goals.

“It’s a good characteristic for the team but it should be a more comfortable game really.”

On his first ever senior goal:

“I just changed my position where I was usually because I was getting marked quite tightly.

“I just decided to go around the back. Kieran got a good flick on it, I held off my man and just got a good flick on it.

“I was buzzing to get a point for the boys.”

On the character in the group:

“We’ve got good fitness levels, good people to come off the bench and a really good culture.

“We want to work as hard as we can as a team and we keep going to the end in every single game.

“We can mix it up. We’ve got different players who can do different things for the group.

“We feel can score at any time in the game.

“The ideal scenario is that we’re 3-0 up at half time. But football is not like that, you have to come through adversity at times and we’ve had difficult moments in the first few games.

“We haven’t played as well as we could have. But it’s about building on what we’re working on and hopefully the results will come more consistently and we’ll get better performances.”

On the return of Tom Anderson:

“Tom was excellent with his headers, clearances and on the ball.

“I was buzzing for him.

“We probably hadn’t played together since November because I’d got injured before he did. He’s a good mate of mine on the team and I was so pleased for him that he did so well.”
